HVGS students are on a learning journey that prepares them for the future while engaging their passions and empowering them to believe that as global citizens, they can, and will make a difference.
Learning and Teaching at HVGS
Principles of Learning and Teaching
As an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, we take a holistic, student-centered approach to learning that balances academic rigor with personal development.
We’ve developed dynamic Principles of Learning and Teaching to guide our vision for exceptional education.
Diverse Learning pathways
Pathways to graduation
The final years of school open doors to endless possibilities. HVGS offers three rigorous pathways to graduation: the Higher School Certificate (HSC), the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, and the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP).
We promote
Student-centered learning
Our IB Programmes centre on student-led, meaningful learning that’s challenging, globally relevant, and driven by inquiry and critical thinking. Attributes that prepare them for their future.
We value
Experiential learning
Experience is the best teacher, so our hands-on programs (from outdoor education to global trips and on-campus incursions) deepen understanding and enrich learning.
We're a local school with a global perspective. As a community, we can envision multiple future scenarios for schooling - scenarios that equip our young people for a dynamic world that even we adults struggle to imagine. This is a worthy focus for us.Rebecca Butterworth Principal
We cultivate
Global-minded perspectives
HVGS students are encouraged to think local and global. Through our focus on service learning and community engagement, students discover their impact and champion causes that matter to them.
We value
Intercultural learning
Our students graduate with the confidence to engage across cultures and the insight to understand and shape their own identities in a complex world.
We ensure
Inclusion and belonging for all
HVGS is a vibrant, inclusive community where every student is celebrated. Each student and adult is encouraged to be their authentic selves. We support all learners to access our enriching curriculum and co-curriculum.
We encourage
Lifelong learning
In a world that’s constantly evolving with new technologies, ideas, and challenges, we must keep adapting. Our approach to learning nurtures lifelong learners, equipped to meet challenges, stay engaged in their communities, and find personal fulfilment as they grow and discover.
