We celebrate diversity and see every student as a unique learner with individual strengths and needs. We want every student to have equal access to our curriculum and co-curriculum.
Student Services Team
Our Student Services team across the School includes specialised teachers, psychologists and educational assistants who offer in-class, small group, individual support and specialist programs to provide for students’ broad sets of needs. It is done within an environment of collaboration and inclusion to ensure that students stay connected and engaged with learning for the long-term.
Learning Enrichment
Our Gifted and Talented teachers and coordinators in the Junior and Senior School support classroom teachers to embed enrichment and extension opportunities within the curriculum and extend children upwards and sideways through the co-curricular program.
We set high expectations for all students and support them to work to their full potential in all aspects of their learning.
Specific enrichment activities include:
- In the Junior School, a specialist Gifted and Talented Teacher and a Gifted and Talented Coordinator lead opportunities for high-potential learners. The opportunities include differentiation, enrichment and extension within and beyond the classroom, as well as co-curricular enrichment opportunities and invitations to external competitions, challenges and enrichment activities.
- Personal Learning Pathways for gifted students to ensure they are working at their full potential.
- Through the University of Newcastle, the High Performing Students Program allows exceptional Senior Students to ‘taste’ tertiary education by undertaking first-year university courses while still at school.
- In Year 9, students begin a Personal Inquiry Project (PIP) on a topic of their choice. The project continues into Year 10, culminating in a Showcase in Term 3 where students present their work to a panel of teachers. Each PIP is planned, researched, and presented independently, giving students the chance to explore their interests in depth.
- External competitions like the da Vinci Decathlon, Australian History Competition, Newcastle Permanent Mathematics Competition, Tournament of Minds, HICES Challenges, and other regional and national competitions help gifted students ‘top up’ and extend their learning outside the classroom.
Behaviour Management
Our behaviour management is based on Restorative Practice, a whole-school approach that builds respect, empathy, and positive relationships.
Restorative Practice helps students understand the impact of their actions, resolve conflicts peacefully, and make things right. This approach creates a supportive, inclusive community where everyone feels valued and heard.
